We started apple picking just after the Bank Holiday weekend
It takes 36 "basket" loads to fill each one of these bins,
and there are an awful lot of these bins to fill.
At the moment we are picking Bramleys
and
Worcesters
two all time favourite English apples.
These days we wouldn't get far with picking without a tractor.
Though years ago these bushel boxes could have been shifted by hand.
Each one holding about 40lbs of apples, back breaking work.
To reach these
a ladder is needed, when we get to the top
there are views like this.
We're picking from the old trees,
some of these Bramley apple trees are nearly 100 years old.
Whilst picking apples we come across lots of ladybirds, earwigs, spiders
and
dragonflies.
It's hard work but it can also be a lot of fun
and seeing those bins fill up is rather rewarding.
